Rapper Cruz Afrika isn't very chuffed with the SAMA nomination list. He feels that fellow rapper Emtee's album, DIY, shouldn't have received the nomination for Best Hip-Hop Album. Cruz Afrika feels the list doesn't represent independent artists.
The SAMA nominees have been announced and while many South Africans are pleased with the list, there is some unhappiness surrounding the upcoming event.
Rapper Cruz Afrika shared his opinion on the Best Hip-Hop nominations list on social media, and he clearly isn't happy.
He doesn't think the list represents independent artists and feels Emtee's nomination isn't quite deserving.
"The list doesn’t represent independent artists and its so wrong, number 1 Emtee does not have an album DIY was an Ep and he was not even on top 10 submissions … y’all talking about recognise while u put the same people every year. Am sorry but i had 2 voice out my opinion."
ZAlebs reported that Cruz Afrika and Emtee have a bitter history, so perhaps his personal feelings are clouding his judgment.
However, the rapper isn't the only one to complain about the SAMA nominees.
South Africans feel that the Kwaito genre is being forced into its end after it was placed in a combined category with Gqom and Amapiano.
On a happier note, despite his dislike of the award ceremony, Cassper Nyovest received a nod in the form of a nomination.
Briefly.co.za reported that his concert, #FillUpOrlandoStadium, has been nominated for Best Live Audio Visual Recording.
This comes after the rapper snubbed the awards after his track Doc Shebeleza wasn't nominated for a South African Music Award back in 2015.
