SA reacts to destruction of R500m counterfeits: 'Why not give to the poor?'

Mzansi social media users have reacted to the destruction of counterfeit goods worth R500 million. Many believed that the items could have been used to help the needy.

The South African police department destroyed counterfeit goods collected from August 2018 to January 2019 recently.

Many felt that the goods could have been donated to those in need, particularly the victims of the recent floods in KZN and Mozambique.

Social media user Paul Mudau said:

"I do not get the logic behind destruction of those goods. Why not distribute them to the needy? Someone's level of thinking needs to be re-checked"

Lebogang also said:

"Why not donate to the poor. Our people"

Others joked saying that the police would probably help themselves with one or two fake brand items. Twitter user Tlou_regi said:
