Mariah Carey was presented with an honourary award, the prestigious Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) last night.
The award-winning singer reflected on the highs and lows of her career but thanked her fans, who she said always supported her and made her feel worthy, during her acceptance speech at the Billboard Music Awards.
After receiving the Icon Award, Mariah joked that it would look fabulous in her New York apartment and then asked the audience to wish her eight-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, a happy birthday.
“I’m so nervous! Seriously, thank you Billboard for letting me grow up on the charts with you and for this incredible honour. Icon? I really don’t think of myself that way,” said Mariah during her acceptance speech.
She went on to say she started making music out of necessity to survive and to express herself, wanting to create something that she could feel worthy of.
"I started making music out of a necessity to survive and to express myself. And I just wanted to create something so I could feel worthy of existing."
Mariah also dedicated the award to those who like her have gone through a hard time and came out stronger on the other side.
"Through your struggles and mine. And to anybody who doesn’t allow themselves to be broken. And keeps getting up, and keeps holding on, and keeps standing tall, keeps on believing and keeps rising - I celebrate you tonight," said Mariah.
Mariah also shared snaps and videos on her Instagram account, celebrating this great acheivement. Take a look below:

Meanwhile, in other international music news, Briefly.co.za reported earlier today that Eminem had just revealed that he will be releasing a new track, and soon. He’s teamed up with rapper Logic and fans cannot contain their excitement.
Eminem has quietened down over the years, but when he drops something new, it is always a banger. The famous rapper is selective with his work, and for good reason. Briefly.co.za learnt that Eminem and Logic have created a new track and it goes by the title Homicide. Yikes, looks like Marshall is tapping into his dark days again.
Taking to social media, the serial hit-maker made the big announcement. The highly-anticipated track drops tomorrow, 3 May, and the hype is real.
