- The ANC has handed out thousands of T-shirts as it enters the final phase of campaigning
- With only days until the election, the party is trying to excite its supporters
- The DA and EFF have similar events planned for the weekend
"For all these T-shirts we have given out, they better vote ANC come next week," said an ANC member at one of the party's recent rallies.
At the Meadowlands event, Deputy President David Mabuza gave out more than 1 500 ANC shirts and 1 100 doeks.
Reportedly, scuffles broke out as ANC supporters tried to get hold of the regalia.
The rally, and the handing out of ANC clothes, comes as part of the 'Siyanqoba' (which translates to 'we are winning') part of the party's campaign, according to News24. This phase of campaigning is geared at amping up excitement ahead of next week's election.
An ANC spokesperson said that, by this late stage in campaigning, most voters had made up their minds, so the ANC's campaign events were aimed at exciting their supporters rather than winning over undecided voters, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
The campaign is set to culminate in an address from Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday at Ellis Park Stadium.
Indeed, the weekend will see major events by all the leading political parties. The EFF will be holding a rally at Soweto's Orlando Stadium on Sunday, while the DA is hosting a campaign event on Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium.
