On Thursday, Julius Malema rubbished reports that he is a member at the elite Sandton country club, Inanda Club. The EFF leader's claims sparked quite the reaction and we took a look at some of the comments it gathered.
Earlier Briefly.co.za reported Julius Malema revealed he is not a member at the Inanda Club, but his wife is and he merely enjoys 'spousal benefits'.
“As a professional accountant and a woman in business, she has a life of her own and I cannot tell her what to do,” he said.
South Africans were quick to react to Malema's revelation and it was clear Mzansi was left divided.
Some praised Juju for allowing his wife to live her own life.
Adam Guztos commented: "That is women empowerment Bro...salute."
Johny Papahope Cakaza added: "It's within her right."
However, there were others who accused Juju of lying, adding his wife should be on board with his views.
Karin Fesenmeier said: "What a liar trying to cover up. When be opens his mouth all you hear is bullsh**t."
Audie Brophy added: "You are good at insulting the rich and well to do...maybe you should whisper in your wife's ear."
Manfred Prigge commented: "Whatever another cover up lie."
Marius Maurice Murths wrote: "So pushing a socialist/ communist agenda does not apply to his wife?"
Briefly.co.za asked social media user Murths if he thought Mrs Malema should be on board with her hubby's political views.
"I do think so indeed, it's a 'defeatist strategy' if she is not. One cannot enjoy the exclusivity of private clubs where the very people they are advocating for are technically not allowed! Unless she tells everyone that she doesn't the principles of the EFF," he answered.
