Local designer Leandi Mulder is flying the South African flag high after she scooped the winning title at a fashion design competition called the 5th China Mohair Fashion Design Competition held in China.
The Durban University of Technology’s Fashion and Textiles graduate obtained a scholarship to study at the prestigious Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) in China and is making her mark in the international fashion industry.
Her studies have not been without challenges as she had to learn Mandarin before she was able to continue studying in China. Thankfully, with the support of dedicated Mandarin lecturers, she reached her goal.
“I came to China to complete my Masters in September 2018, making this my eight month at BIFT”
50 Students were chosen across five Chinese universities to participate in the competition she won.
“This win has furthermore confirmed that I am where I am meant to be and people are appreciating my work even at an international level"
