EFF leader Julius Malema's grandmother, Sarah Malema, passed away

Just a day before the EFF's last rally, the party's leader, Julius Malema, sadly lost his grandmother, Koko Sarah. Despite suffering the loss of the woman who raised him, Malema will attend the Tshela Thupa Rally.

EFF leader Julius Malema lost his grandmother, Sarah Malema, affectionately known as Koko Sarah, on Saturday, 3 May.

She passed away in her home in Seshogo, Polokwane, though it's not clear yet what the cause of death was.

According to SABC News Online, Malema was raised by his grandmother after his parents passed away.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Koko Sarah's passing comes just a few weeks after the death of her daughter.

The EFF released a statement to send their leader their condolences.

"We send our revolutionary condolences on behalf of the entire Economic Emancipation Movement to our CIC Julius Malema, the entire Malema family, their relatives and friends."
"The greatest matriarch and pillar of their strength has fallen; the great tree that provided cooling shades of comfort, love and stability has been uprooted, forever, from their lives."

Despite his obviously immense personal loss, the EFF's Secretary-General, Godrich Gardee, assured members that their leader will attend the party's final rally in Orlando, Soweto, on Sunday, 5 May.
