- Luxolo said that part of his mission is to change perceptions of South African townships and the people who live there
Talented local photographer, Luxolo Witvoet, is changing perceptions about South African township life with his fashion photography.
Luxolo grew up in Langa, a township situated in the Western Cape, and his experience of this kasi opened his eyes to the ways in which people of colour are sidelined in South African media.
Often, the only narratives that exist about South African townships are steeped in brutal and negative images of crime and poverty.
Luxolo is showing, with his gorgeous photography, that there are a great deal of narratives that exist far beyond this narrow perception.
The world that Luxolo presents through his images is one filled with colour, grace and style.
Luxolo’s recent body of work, A Langa Canvas, paints a beautiful and captivating picture of his home kasi.
“It’s important to me that my work is empowering and inspiring,” Luxolo explained to Beautiful News South Africa.
Briefly.co.za found out that, on top of being a photographer, Luxolo is also a director and film editor.
