- Julius Malema says that South Africa needs more female leaders
- He also pledged that women would own half of all land under an EFF government
- Malema also claimed that Jacob Zuma became president "because he is a man"
Julius Malema says that women will own 50% of all land when the EFF comes into power.
He made the comments on Sunday at the EFF's last rally at Orlando Stadium.
The EFF leader also said that women make better leaders than men.
"If you say you can't be led by women, you are saying you can't be led by Winnie Mandela," Malema said.
Malema went on to compare Jacob Zuma unfavourably to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, saying that Zuma became president because he was a man.
During his remarks, Malema also called for more female representation as senior officials in government departments. He went on to say his party gives female candidates more freedom to lead.
Additionally, he asserted that the EFF does not tolerate gender-based violence, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
"Women are oppressed three times more than men," Malema said, according to Times Live.
The speech was Malema's final rally address ahead of the elections on May 8. The stadium was filled to capacity with EFF supporters.
However, at this late stage in the campaign, his speech seemed more aimed at exciting supporters rather than winning over undecided voters. It remains to be seen whether his rhetoric will translate into a growth in support at the ballot box.
