Ballot boxes were found along the side of the R36 yesterday afternoon by Errence Mash, who had been on his way to Tzaneen.

While driving, Mash had spotted a single box, telling Letaba Herald that he had originally just driven past:

“I decided to turn around. On closer inspection I found three more folded boxes inside.”

The unsuspected motorist had left the boxes behind, afraid that he would invite trouble if authorities found them in his possession.

Mash had decided instead to post a live video to Facebook hopeful that law enforcement would catch wind of it.

The SAPS had contacted him this morning and he had escorted them to the scene where the ballot boxes were retrieved.

It is currently believed that the boxes had been lost during transportation to a voting station ahead of Wednesday's election.

According to CapricornFM News, an IEC officer has been dismissed after using an open bakkie to transport the ballot boxes.
