- Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has said only the ANC can ensure that women's rights are protected
- She also praised the ruling party's track record regarding women's issues
- She called on women to vote to keep the ANC in power
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has urged women to vote for the ANC, saying that it is the only party which can make sure they are "fully emancipated".
She says that ANC cares the most about women's issues of all the major political parties.
Dlamini-Zuma made the remarks after casting her special vote in Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.
As evidence of the ANC's commitment to women's empowerment, Dlamini-Zuma cited the party's rules that 50% of parliamentarians and hold officers should be women, according to The Citizen.
She said this gender balance would ensure that legislation was passed to advance women's interests and protect their rights.
Additionally, Dlamini-Zuma praised the ANC's track record regarding women's issues, claiming that the ruling party has made improvements to women's healthcare and to issues like maternity leave.
She also says that the ANC's expansion of the electricity grid had a major positive effect on many women and girls in rural areas, as they generally did the bulk of the work of gathering firewood and other materials for fires, etc.
Dlamini-Zuma called on women around the country to cast their ballot for the ANC, arguing that this was the only way they could make sure their rights would continue to be protected, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
