Malema pays tribute to his grandmother, says he owes everything to her

Julius Malema has paid tribute to his grandmother, Sarah Koko, who passed away over the weekend. 

The EFF leader said he owes everything to her.

Speaking at the EFF's final rally ahead of the May 8 election, Malema said his grandmother meant everything to him.

Sarah Koko raised Malema after his mother passed away. Malema has said that she taught him to be fearless, according to TimesLive. 

He has also joked on several occasions that his grandmother wanted to stay alive until he got married, so that she could see who would be looking after him. As a result, Malema said that he waited to get married just to keep his grandmother around, has gathered. 

Malema also opened up about his grandmother on social media. In a tweet, he referred to her as a "pillar of strength" and as his "confidant". He added that she was a source of "comfort, love and stability".

Malema also thanked those who had sent condolences after Sarah Koko's passing. Indeed, there was an outpouring of messages of support for Malema both on social media and off following his grandmother's death. 

Figures across the political spectrum shared their condolences, from Bantu Holomisa to Adam Habib, among others. 

"Your words are indeed helping us to navigate this uncertain time," Malema posted on Twitter. "Thank you, everyone."
