Update: Man hands himself over for running down security guard

- A man deliberately drove into a security guard at a shopping centre and the footage went viral recently

- The driver has now handed himself in to Stellenbosch police

- The 38-year-old man now faces a charge of attempted murder and will appear in court on Friday

South Africans were shocked to see a video showing the driver of a bakkie deliberately running over a security guard.

The incident took place at Die Boord Spar in Stellenbosch when the guard directed the driver to turn the other way as he was headed for a one-way road.

Briefly.co.za reported on the event and that the security guard survived the attack.

South Africans demanded action be taken against the perpetrator and it seems they may have their wish as the man handed himself in to Stellenbosch police.

The 38-year-old man will have to contend with a charge of attempted murder when he appears in court on Friday.

News24 reported that Western Cape police representative, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed the news on Wednesday.

Although the security guard was seen lying motionless in the video, Briefly.co.za understands he was discharged and has resumed work duties.
