Video footage has emerged of a granny wearing ANC regalia being assaulted by EFF supporters at a voting station. The gogo is seen being dragged out of the venue by people dressed in red EFF T-shirts.
Social media users were outraged by how she was treated. Twitter user Jade Bell said:
"I can't bear it. It is her Constitutional right to vote for whoever she chooses to!!! Who do they think they are to treat her like that?"
While La Nkosi said:
"Are these the people who claim to respect the elderly? Are these the very same people that promise our elderly grants worth more than what they are receiving whilst they lack empathy? Hayini bethunana!"
Thabo Phuti Mojela, however, had an explanation about why they were dragging her out of the voting venue. According to him, the woman was trying to vote more than once:
"She was trying to vote twice, if not more. I think they should have called the police instead of manhandling her. She should also be ashamed of herself."
Miss Steelo argued that the treatment was still unwarranted:
"I don't care even... she could've been found chewing on ballot papers but EFF members are not IEC officials nor are they police officers. They have no right to manhandle an elderly in this manner. Nothing justifies this despicable behaviour."
