The elections are one of the most stressful events in a politician's career and the pressure is on as the results are streaming in. The EFF's Dali Mpofu and the ANC's Fikile Mbalula are apparently feeling the strain and are engaged in a Twitter battle.
Dali Mpofu, EFF national chairperson, and Fikile Mbalula, ANC elections head, are having it out on social media as South Africa watches the election results come in.
The current results show that the ANC is firmly in the lead, despite significant loses in votes.
According to TimesLIVE, the argument ignited when Mpofu said the ruling party should not be in a rush to celebrate just yet:
"Is it me or is the people's movement actually celebrating early results showing that it has dropped to below 55% nationally?"
Mbalula, who had been tasked with navigating one of the stickiest elections in the party's history, could not resist clapping back.
The elections head dubbed the EFF a 'government in waiting'. This did not go down well with Mpofu, who agreed with Mbalula, saying that the red berets would lead in his 'lifetime'.
Nevertheless, Mpofu could not resist pointing out to the man responsible for the ANC's election campaign that the party had seen a decline in votes.
