This year's election was seen by many South Africans as a straightforward thing - the ANC would win again, the DA would get second place and the EFF would secure the third spot.

But there was an unexpected twist that very few people saw coming. In fact, it's so surprising that it could easily be said no one saw this coming.

The EFF had a surprisingly substantial presence in the whites-only settlement of Orania.

The South African reports that the red berets came in third in the whites-only town’s voting district.

This turn of events follows a month after Orania said that people of colour are welcome, which may have influenced the votes a bit.

News24's Election Map indicated that the EFF got 3.73% of votes on 8 May. Briefly.co.za gathered that all votes from the district have been accounted for.

While the 21 votes the EFF got isn't something absolutely amazing, it's still a sign of revolution happening in the place where it was least expected.
