For nearly all students, the highlight of their academic career is the moment when they’re able to graduate and receive their qualification.

Sharonda Wilson worked hard to obtain her bachelor’s in business administration, but was faced with an awkward dilemma.

Her son, Stephan, was graduating on the very same day, but at a different university.

CNN reported that Sharonda was set to graduate from Ferris State University, while Stephan would be capped at Central Michigan University in a different part of the state of Michigan.

The caring mother recognised the importance of her son’s moment and chose to forego her own to enable attendance at his event.

However, her son’s institution planned an unexpected surprise.

Prior to the graduation, Sharonda posted her dilemma via Facebook and one of the students working in the University president’s office noted it.

On the day of graduation, he took it upon himself to inform the president, Bob Davies, about Sharonda’s predicament.

Davies came to the party and reached out to Ferris State University’s President David Eisler and a decision was made for Ferris State to confer Sharonda’s degree.

Briefly.co.za understands that Stephan was awarded a bachelor of arts in music theatre.

Stephan said, "Earning my degree was such a huge milestone in my life, and having my mom with me to celebrate that moment was an unbelievable blessing. I am so proud of us both."

The beautiful moment was caught on camera and shared via social media.
