A video has emerged of a woman stealing clothes from a store. The shop assistants caught her in the change room and forced her to strip off the layers of clothing.
In the footage, the young woman is seen removing four pairs of jeans, some tights and several skirts. The shop assistants shout at the woman as she takes off the clothing. They ask her who she came to the store with, but she doesn't respond.
According to the women working in the store, the shoplifter had been walking around the store and fitting rooms suspiciously.
One of the women commented that they caught her because she looked bigger than when she initially walked into the store:
"You can't come in slender and walk out fat."
Mzansi social media users had mixed reactions. Some were not happy with how the shop assistants humiliated the woman.
Twitter user 2las_Incognito said:
"But what I don't understand is humiliation."
While Nvy014 said:
"Call the police? Make the person pay for the merch and ask security to watch out for them? Taking the video is all for your personal entertainment and uncalled-for..."
"Imagine mocking this lady, taking pictures or videos of her, and distributing them... What's there to gain?"
Carlos Matu had a different perspective and said:
"This is an economical problem. This is the price we pay, when we send corrupt people to government. Instead of serving us, they serve their own. Today it's her, tomorrow it can be anyone. Sad thing is, you will find out that one or two of those ladies are stealing at work too."
Others were upset that South Africans were choosing to sympathise with a criminal.
"This one humiliated herself before anyone coul"
