An incident has left SA's trucking community devastated after an attack took the life of a driver. After a brick was thrown through the windscreen of a Time Link truck, the resulting stampede to loot the cargo took the life of Christopher Kgomo.
A shocking incident in the Western Cape has left the trucking community reeling and has resulted in the death of one person, with another left injured.
Christopher Kgomo, a driver for Time Link, had been busy with a long-distance delivery when two suspects allegedly threw bricks through his windscreen, forcing him to bring the truck to a standstill.
Once the truck had stopped, looters rushed the vehicle to steal the cargo. Kgomo, who had been badly injured by the initial assault, had been killed in the resulting stampede, reports The South African.
His co-driver, who had been in the sleeper cab, sustained injuries but had thankfully survived the incident.
Drivers have been encouraged to bring their vehicles to a standstill in such incidents, contact emergency services, and to comply with the demands of their assailants without putting their lives at risks.
