- Julius Malema has suggested that Fikile Mbalula will be the ANC's pick for North West premier candidate
- This comes as the ANC has still not unveiled its candidate for the province
- Mbalula, however, denied the suggestion
On Monday, the ANC published the names of several of its premier candidates, but did not yet name anyone to the position in the North West province.
Naturally, many have since speculated who the candidate could be.
The EFF's Julius Malema, for one, reckons that it could the ANC's head of elections, Fikile Mbalula.
Fikile Mbalula tweeted "Good morning, South Africa", to which Malema replied, "How are you NW premier candidate?"
Mbalula fired back, however, telling Malema not to speculate on ANC appointments. He said that Malema should leave the questions for eNCA journalist Samkele Maseko, according to The Citizen.
This is not the first time Mbalula and Malema have gotten involved in Twitter spats. Sometimes, the two have joked with each other on the platform, such as when Mbalula teased Malema for the poor attendance at one of his campaign events.
However, their Twitter exchanges have also become heated in the past. In one case, Malema slammed Mbalula for his "childish conduct" after he mocked EFF supporters.
While Mbalula did not provide an alternative name on Twitter for the North West premier candidate, the ANC has said that it will be revealling the candidate shortly.
This comes after the ANC retained its majority in the province, but saw a 6% decrease in support compared to the previous election, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
