Following her out-of-the-blue proposal to her bae last week, Zodwa Wabantu has opened up about what changed her mind about marriage after she claimed marriage was overrated.
The Mzansi performer always vowed that she would never get married, but her sudden change has left fans questioning if fame has changed her.
But the socialite told TshisaLive, that money had given her options, which made her change her outlook on life as a whole.
A while back, Zodwa claimed that she was the “non-marriage type”, but early last week she not only proposed to her Ben 10 boyfriend but now also plans to send lobola to his family and to take responsibility for paying for the wedding of her dreams.
She told TshisaLive that she was sure she would never get married and when she had said it, she meant it, but things changed.
“Money changed my mind. It gave me options,” she said.
Zodwa explained that her reasoning behind saying she would never get married was she thought no man would ever be able to handle her. But as she earned more money, and she was able to tick off the big items on her to-do list, marriage began to look more appealing to her.
“In the beginning, I thought no man would ask me out.. with plans to stay with me. I know who I am and I am a strong woman – not many men can deal with that. But more than that, I had important sh*t to do. Like I have a son, whose future I had to ensure was secure,” said Zodwa.
She also added that she had a house to build and other things to do, so marriage wasn’t appealing back then. She said marriage looked like a task that she wasn’t ready for or wanted.
But after proposing to the man of her dreams, Zodwa bought herself an expensive ring, and started preparing for the big do in June. She said she’s ready to be a wife – but on her own terms, which doesn’t surprise us much.
When asked if this was a publicity stunt or to boost her reality show’s ratings, Zodwa answered: “No sweety, it has nothing to do with fame. I am just living my best life.”
Meanwhile, three weeks ago, Briefly.co.za reported that Mzansi dancer, Zodwa Wabantu, took to social media after a performance in Bloemfontein that weekend to clap back at men who thought they knew her and thought they could approach her to sleep with them.
After a recent performance in Bloemfontein, an irate Zodwa took to social media to voice her frustration and warning to men who thought they had a chance to sleep with her.
Zodwa was fuming after being mistreated at a gig and took to Instagram to let all men, including the men she works with, know that she will stand her ground and tell them where they can get off.
