A descendant of the 'architect of apartheid' is on his way to serve in Parliament thanks to the Freedom Front Plus party. Dr Wynand Boshoff, the son of the party's leader in the Northern Cape, Prof. Carel Boshoff, has scored a seat in the National Assembly after the party enjoyed success in last week's elections.

In a strange and ironic turn of events, Dr HF Verwoerd's grandson will now be serving in Parliament.

News24 reports that Dr Wynand Boshoff, son of the founder of the Orania 'whites-only' settlement and grandson of Verwoerd himself, is on his way to serve South Africa.

Anna, Boshoff's mother, is Verwoerd's daughter. Carel, his brother, is currently the 'president' of Orania in the Northern Cape.

Despite his bloodline heralding back the the 'architect of apartheid' himself, Boshoff wants to be judged on his own merits and not the former prime minister's.

Boshoff has reportedly lived in Orania since 1993, in what he labels his 'weekend home'. He also served as councillor to the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberly.

Boshoff intends to represent minority groups in Parliament, not only Afrikaners, but the coloured community too.

Briefly.co.za reported earlier that the FF+ party had managed to score a spot at the 'big table' after ranking fifth in the elections with 414 864 votes.
