The Western Cape ANC has overturned the suspension of treasurer Maurencia Gillion, who was in hot water over a controversial election donation from businessman Iqbal Survé. Gillion will remain in her position.
Western Cape ANC treasurer, Maurencia Gillion, was suspended after it was found she failed to return a controversial donation that came from Iqbal Survé's Sekunjalo group, as reported on by News24.
However, the ANC's provincial committee in the Western Cape has decided to overturn this suspension and keep Gillion in her position.
According to News24, this decision was made during a meeting on the evening of 17 May.
Faiez Jacobs, the ANC's Western Cape secretary stated that it was decided that Gillion will keep her position.
"She remains in her position. We have agreed to return a donation received last week."
Briefly.co.za gathered that the donation of R1 million that was made on 1 May, was allegedly to 'deepen democracy' ahead of the 2019 elections.
Survé apparently didn't ask for anything in return.
