Lorch, who is 25 years old, beat out several other impressive players such as Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane to claim the honour. Indeed, Lorch played a vital role in Pirates' performance this season, which saw them finsihing in second place behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Lorch kept his acceptance speech short and sweet, according to eNCA. He said only one sentence: "Pirates' players deserve these awards. I accept them on their behalf."

This makes for a major stride forward in Lorch's young career. Indeed, it appears that the football world will hear more from Lorch, as he is set to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations as part of Bafana Bafana, Briefly.co.za has gathered.

In addition to winning Footballer of the Season, Lorch also received the Players' Player of the Season - indicating the level of respect he has already attained from his teammates and competitors.
