Former SuperSport presenter, Robert Marawa has opened up about the work stress he had endured that resulted in him landing up in ICU recently.
When Roberts ended up in ICU, those close to him feared the worse. But how sick was the sports presenter?
Robert made headlines late last week when he tweeted that he had been told by the SuperSport bosses not to come to work anymore. The sports channel later confirmed that Roberts was no longer working with them.
When a social media follower asked Roberts what had happened, he tweeted: “One day you will all know. It will cost me my life, but you will know.”
According to TshisaLive, Robert tols Radio 2000’s Phat Joe that work stress had at times grown so intense that it led to his hospitalisation, adding that he is no longer scared to speak the truth.
“People don’t know what it is that I’ve had to do. I’ve been threatened. I was in ICU in June/July last year. My sister was shattered. When she walked in, she saw a corpse. But people don’t know that because I don’t talk about it,” said Robert.
He added: “The thing is, if my life had to end because of a passion and the job that I do, then so be it.”
Robert told Sunday World last year, that he had been taken to hospital. However, he downplayed the situation at the time. He said his ailments was not important enough to make the news.
The sports presenter star has also battled with his health in the past. He had a heart attack after a gym session in 2008, which he said was because he had not been exercising regularly. He collapsed at an event in 2013 and was allegedly taken to a medical facility in 2017.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Briefly.co.za reported that Mzansi is buzzing with questions regarding Robert Marawa dismissal by SuperSport. It is rumoured that his dismissal had something to do with a 'sexual harassment' cover-up, as reported on earlier by Briefly.co.za. City Press reports that the presenter is not going to leave matters as they are, and is seeking legal advice.
A close friend to Robert said he felt his dismissal was unwarranted and unfair. Meanwhile, SuperSport blamed Robert's dismissal on his no-nonsense approach. His stance on football-related issues hasn't always gone down well with football bosses, according to City Press.
Meanwhile earlier today, Briefly.co.za reported that Robert Marawa's sexual harassment claims will be exposed today if a former colleague keeps her promise to reveal all.
As Robert Marawa has fans crying foul at his unexpected dismissal, a new twist in the story has come to light. Mmaphuti Mashamaite, a fellow sportscaster, has revealed that she suffered sexual harassment at the hands of one of her bosses, labelling him a 'sexual predator'.
Mashamaite says she has been forced to relocate to Limpopo as a result of the incident: "I'm now in Limpopo because I fear for my life. I'm with my lawyer and publicist and they are advising me on how to deal with the issue."
