Billionaire surprises graduates by promising to pay off class’ debt

Graduation ceremonies are a special occasion, but one became even more memorable after a surprise announcement was made.

A billionaire received a huge ovation following his announcement that his family would settle the student debt of his entire class.

Robert F Smith made the announcement at the Morehouse College graduation ceremony in Georgia, USA.

Smith also called on his classmates to pay it forward by helping others when they’re in a position to do so.

The video was shared by Marcus Smith (@MarcusSmithKTLA) via twitter and has already attracted more than 30 000 likes since it was shared on Sunday.

Briefly.co.za also noted that it was shared by Fikile Mbabule (@MbalulaFikile), but not all South Africans were pleased about it.

Mbaks likened local billionaire, Patrice Motsepe, to Smith and some tweeps took exception to this.
