ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule sparked a debate over whether or not President Cyril Ramaphosa had helped the party succeed in retaining their majority during the 2019 Elections. Former President Jacob Zuma has weighed in with his opinion, telling supporters that no individual member is more powerful than the ANC itself.
Speaking at the IEC Results Centre as the ANC enjoyed yet another victory at the polls, Ace Magashule and Fikile Mbalula, elections head, sparked a debate over whether or not President Cyril Ramaphosa could take the credit for the win.
Briefly.co.za reported at the time that Secretary-General Magashule had disagreed that Ramaphosa had been the reason why they had secured the majority vote once more.
It seems as if former president Jacob Zuma agreed with Magashule, telling supporters that:
“There’s no person who can claim he has more power than the ANC. It’s the ANC that’s more powerful than an individual.”
Mbalula had claimed that research had indicated that the ANC would have dropped below 40% without President Cyril Ramaphosa's leadership, reports Eyewitness News.
Weighing in with his opinion yesterday, outside of the High Court where he is hoping to have corruption charges thrown out, Zuma had said that he had campaigned for people to vote for the ANC, not an individual.
