Zodwa Wabantu is breaking all the rules, and her fiancé, Ntobeko Linda, is only too happy to join her. Their latest escapade involves him taking her surname after they marry. This, of course, is totally different from any other habits and traditions that take place in any place around the world. Usually, the woman takes the surname of the man, but in this case, every thing is now different. She is now trying to live her own way without caring much about traditions and what other people may say about her and her new marriage. However, we all wish them a happy life.
The controversial dancer shot to fame years ago for her preference of ditching her underwear and has since been labelled somewhat of a feminist icon by her supporters. She loves to go against the grain, and she just wants to live her life the way she think it makes sense. If you think of it, since we are kids, were are all forced one way or another to make many decisions mainly based on the opinions of other people around us without thinking of what we really want or if it is totally right to follow such many traditions and rules. However, sometimes it is better to go with the flow for more peace of mind and less family problems.
Zodwa surprised everyone earlier this month when she got down on a knee and proposed to her Ben 10, Ntobeko Linda. She even purchased the rings for both of them at her cost and has expressed that she will be sending representatives from her family to Ntobeko’s family to negotiate lobola. This is actually very interesting, as many people believe it is the first time when something like this has happened, and many people were totally surprised by her gesture. Most of all, it makes sense to her and to her fiance, Ntobeko Linda, and this is what is most important after all. The important thing is that we all wish them eternal happiness.
She is going against African tradition where the bride price is observed, it is a man’s duty that he pay his bride’s family in a heterosexual relationship. Payment is determined different in a gay or lesbian relationship. This could be a problem for many traditional people from Africa and from around the world, but after all, it is her life, and she is free to choose how to get married. However, it is interesting to know if other people from Africa or from other countries around the world may start doing the same thing after her.
According to TshisaLive, Zodwa and Linda spoke to the Daily Sun recently where he revealed he will be taking on his future wife’s surname when they marry.
“We have talked about it and we agree,” said Zodwa before she explained that culture had nothing to do with the way they choose to live their lives.
“But culture has nothing to do with us. We were not there when old people decided to do things their way. We will decide things ourselves,” said Zodwa.
She added: “We are different and we want to do things differently. Some people may not like the way we do things but we don’t care. I love my fans but this is a personal issue.”
Other phrases from Zodwa also include the following:
“Men like us like this, naked, we have sex at night and we taste nice! Use your a**. This is your power. I mean I don’t even know how to dance but I get R35 000. So my fellow b**ches, be yourselves, don’t change. A** is a**,”
“When I got on stage, people were like: ‘Zodwa we can see something blue, you are wearing a panty now?’”
After that interview on Afternoon Express in March, Zodwa is alleged to have went back to her no-panty-wearing ways.
“I don’t like sh*t. You know why? Because I’m just like any of you. I am not a celebrity. I’m here because you love me for being me. I will never let another bi**h just disrespect me. That’s why I took her hair. This doesn’t even look like the expensive kind,”
She was quoted saying so by Tshisa Live over stage. It is clear here that she loves her fans, and as she said, that is the main reason why she is just trying to be herself and do what she loves.
Zodwa said in a video that went viral over the internet in January. It is totally obvious here that she lives her life the way she thinks without caring at all about the opinions of other people around her, which is so obvious from her sayings.
Earlier today, Briefly.co.za reported that Zodwa Wabantu took to social media to squash the rumours about her and her mother-in-law being at loggerheads.
Zodwa Wabantu and her fiancé Ntobeko Linda are going to tie the knot soon. But before Zodwa could do that, she had to let her fans know that there wasn’t any trouble in paradise or with her future in-laws.
The dancer’s relationship with Ntobeko has been criticised a lot due to the large age difference between them. There was also rumours that Ntobeko’s family was against Zodwa being part of their family. The trio, Zodwa, her fiancé Ntobeko and his mom took to Instagram to end all speculation once and for all. However, age has never been a problem for them.
