- Former DA councillor, Annette Kennealy, has been murdered in a farm attack
- The DA, among others, has sent their condolences to her family
- The incident took place on Kennealy's property in Makhado, Limpopo
There has been an outpouring of tributes for 50-year-old Annette Kennealy, who was murdered on her farm on Monday.
Kennealy lived in Makhado, Limpopo.
In addition to being a landowner, Kennealy had also previously worked as councillor for the DA.
Kennealy was attacked at her home by assailants using a hammer, according to The South African.
The DA was among those who paid tribute to Kennealy. Jacques Smalle, the DA Limpopo leader, shared a message in honour of Kennealy.
He praised her service as a member of the DA, and spoke about her passion for the arts and for nature. Smalle also shared his condolences with Kennealy's friends and family, particularly her daughters.
The DA is fighting to pass legislation that would lend more protection to farmers. This would include so-called "rural safety units", which would patrol farms that are far away from more densely-populated areas.
This is because isolated farms tend to attract assailants as there is far less chance of police or other locals getting to the scene, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
According to the South African Police Service, there were 62 farm murders in 2018. These attacks are almost always motivated by criminals in search of money or valuables to steal.
