Having finished above the Gunners in the just concluded Premier League campaign, Chelsea have been tipped clear favourites to lift the title.

However, Van Persie believes his former side has everything it takes to emerge top in Azerbaijan.

"Personally, I think Arsenal have the edge," Van Persie told the BBC.

"They’re a little bit better. But Chelsea have Eden Hazard and he is a very special player – at any time he can come up with something," he added.

The Dutchman spent eight years with Arsenal rising through the ranks to become captain before joining Manchester United in where he won his first and last Premier League medal.

Meanwhile, the Emirates outfit stand an outside chance of qualifying for Champions League next season should they overcome the Blues.

They will miss the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the midfielder confirmed he would not travel with the rest of the squad owing to political tension pitting his native country, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
