Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo deserves another Ballon d'Or over Barcelona’s Lionel Messi claims Australian legend Tim Cahill.
According to sportskeeda.com, the former Everton forward, who is Australia’s all-time leading goalscorer, revealed he had reasons for backing Ronaldo as favorite to claim the next Ballon d'Or.
However, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is undoubtedly one of the top favourites, with the credentials to stop Ronaldo from winning his sixth Ballon d'Or.
The Argentine playmaker netted 36 times alongside 15 assists in La Liga this term.
Messi also captained Barcelona to defend their La Liga title, their eighth win in 11 seasons, but a humiliating defeat at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield shattered their hopes of winning the Champions League.
On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo, who arrived from Real Madrid after a 9-season stay at the Spanish capital, helped Juventus to Serie A silverware in his debut season.
Ronaldo scored 21 goals and 11 assists in the course of the campaign.
At the moment, both stars are at par on 5 Ballon d'Or awards, suggesting that 2019 Ballon d'Or would act as the tiebreaker.
Speaking with Alkass Sport, Cahill, maintained that Ronaldo deserves another Ballon d'Or.
"The reason why I say Ronaldo, I know people won't agree, is because of what he's done in Juventus.
"He left Real Madrid, went there and had such a massive impact on another league. I've never seen another player do it at Man United, Madrid for so many years.
"And I know he didn't win the Champions League but he has such an impact in any club. If you can take players and put them somewhere at his age...
"I know people won't agree, I just appreciate his professionalism."
Interestingly, as the 2018-19 is coming to an end, Messi and Ronaldo still have one more game to play.
Messi’s Barcelona will battle Valencia for Copa del Rey title on Saturday, May 25, while Juventus will tackle Sampdoria on Sunday.
