The ladies of Banyana Banyana could walk away with a R1 million paycheck each at the Fifa Women's World Cup in France.
For the first time, equality in regards to paychecks is a possibility in the SA soccer teams.
On Thursday, SA Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan revealed that the female soccer players of Banyana could for the first time earn as much as their Bafana Bafana counterparts in the World Cup and Afcon.
“This will go a long way towards closing the pay gap between the men and women footballers in this country and it is a happy day for South African football‚” said Jordaan.
The Sowetan reported the Banyana players could each walk away with R1 million paycheck - the highest amount of their careers - at the Fifa Women's World Cup in France.
However, Briefly.co.za learned their final payout depends on their performance at the tournament. If Banyana, and Bafana Bafana, reach the Last 16 stage of the World Cup in France and the Afcon finals in Egypt, they will receive R320 000 each.
The amount is bumped up to R520 000 if they reach the quarter-finals and R670 000 for a spot in the semifinals.
The winners of the respective tournaments will walk away with a R920 000 paycheck for each player.
