Maritzburg United battled against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila as the clubs slugged it out in the promotion playoffs.
Maritzburg travelled to Thohoyandou Stadium for the away encounter, but faced more problems off the pitch than on it.
The Maritzburg players allegedly endured a terrible odour coming from the visitors’ dressing room.
To add insult to injury, coach Eric Tinkler revealed he and the team couldn’t stop itching.
SowetanLIVE reported that the team then took the decision to change on the team bus instead.
Tinkler laughed off the incident following his team’s crucial 2-0 victory, but felt it may have been part of the home team’s strategy.
The former Bafana Bafana star said, "There seems to have been something in there that was put (and) whether it was on purpose or not‚ I can’t say that.”
Briefly.co.za understands that Tshakhuma’s club's communications manager, Livhuwani Madzuhe, refuted Tinkler’s claims.
Madzuhe said he checked out both dressing rooms and saw no evidence of foul play.
However, he also confirmed that Maritzburg returned to the dressing room later, but only after the room was cleaned.
