- They are Johanco Fleischman and Jessica Kuhn
- Police have urged anyone with information regarding their deaths to come forward
The young couple who were killed after the car ran out of fuel has been identified.
The victims were Johanco Fleischman, 19, and Jessica Kuhn, 21.
Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, a police spokesperson, confirmed the couple's death on Monday.
The couple's bakkie ran out of fuel near the Putfontein Road off-ramp on the N12 bridge in Benoni. At roughly 11pm they were attacked, according to News24.
It is suspected that the attackers stole a cellphone before fleeing the scene.
Paramedics arrived just after midnight. They found Kuhn in the vehicle, having suffered one gunshot wound, while Fleischman was outside the car and had been struck multiple times. Paramedics immediately declared the couple dead on site.
Gauteng police commissioner, Elias Mawela, has established a task team to investigate the case and track down those responsible for the killing.
Dlamini urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward, saying that there would be a reward. Additionally, Dlamini condemned the killings and promised the victims' friends and family that the police were doing all they could to track down the killers.
He also said that the suspects were armed and dangerous, and warned members of the public not to confront them but rather to report the sighting to the nearest police station, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
