Oscar Buthelezi is an award-winning dancer and choreographer from Vosloorus who has been invited to Germany to compete against the best in the world.
The 27-year-old choreographer won both local and international awards while working with the Moving into Dance Professional Company. He has been selected to compete in Germany.
Oscar was recently awarded a Naledi Theatre Award for Best Choreography in the Play/Musical category for The Color Purple. In 2016, he became the first African to win the Kurt Joos International Award for choreography in Germany.
To get to the 33rd International Competition for Choreographers in Germany next month he needs money urgently.
Oscar needs to raise R60 000 for plane tickets and visas for four people. He now has just one week to get the money together. Eugenie Drakes has set up a crowdfunding initiative in the hopes to help Oscar get to Germany.
“Please support Oscar to take up this challenge and bring the award home. Experiences like this will grow and develop Oscar’s unique talent and enable him to showcase South African talent.”
They have already raised R8,365.56 and hope that if more people hear Oscar’s story, they too will help make his dream come true.
