US singer and songwriter, R Kelly, has seen 11 felony sexual crime charges filed against him, and his lawyer says the charges are old and a refiling from an existing case. The R&B star is currently out on bail.
52-year-old Robert Kelly, known to the world as R Kelly had been facing 10 felony counts for alleged abuse that were filed in February.
On the 30th, Chicago prosecutors filled 11 felony sexual crime charges against him, but his lawyer says the charges are nothing new and from an existing case, as reported on by TimesLIVE.
R Kelly insists that he is innocent and that those accusing him is lying, according to CBS News.
"I didn't do this stuff. This not me."
"Whether they're old rumours, new rumours, future rumours, not true."
Kelly's lawyer, Steve Greenberg, stated that the charges are from one of the alleged victims who already made accusations, they are simply charged differently now.
"R Kelly was not charged with a new case. He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago). It changes nothing."
Briefly.co.za gathered that the charges are connected to the 2010 alleged abuse and sexual assault of a person whose identity is unknown - court documents identify the person simply as JP.
A report by IOL News indicates that the charges are for the sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 13 and 16.
According to American media, Kelly will appear in court on the 6th of June.
