Gauteng Premier David Makhura has announced that Panyaza Lesufi will be returning as the MEC for education in the province. This comes after Makhura moved him to the finance and e-government portfolio when he reconfigured his provincial administration.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has heeded Mzansi's call for Panyaza Lesufi to return to his former post as education MEC.
Lesufi has been celebrated nationwide for his effective responses to education related issues during his time in the position, prompting concern when he had been moved by the premier.
Commenting on the situation, Makhura announced that Lesufi would indeed be returning:
“... the overall non-partisan feedback from society, education sector and the movement is that it will serve Gauteng better that he remains in the education portfolio to continue the good work of ensuring that our province is the leader and pioneer of educational transformation."
Following this move, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will now replace Lesufi as the MEC for finance and e-government, reports Sunday World.
Neither Lesufi or his spokesman, Steve Mabona, could be reached for comment at the time of publishing.
