On Tuesday, entrepreneur Themba Rumbu shared a couple of heartbreaking photos of a gogo's living conditions.
According to Rumbu, the 89-year-old elderly lady's name is Nxumalo and she resides in Bucanana Ward 33 eMhlathuze, KwaZulu-Natal.
"South Africa can we help Gogo Nxumalo (89) from Bucanana Ward 33 eMhlathuze in KZN. After 25 years of Freedom, our grandmothers can’t be expected to live like this. A simple retweet can get this to the right person who can help," Rumbu captioned the photos.
The post sparked quite the reaction and it was widely recirculated on Twitter.
Social media users called on the South African head of state, President Cyril Ramaphosa, to help the struggling gogo.
Rumbu added he plans to start a crowdfunding campaign to raise money towards bettering the living standards of the gogo.
It is not the first time South Africans have cried out over the living standards of elderly people in the country.
