Metro FM Music Awards experienced a financial setback last year, but the good news is they will be making a comeback later on this year.
A number of insiders of the music industry who are connected to the leading recording companies, have said that they have unofficially had the go ahead to make submissions for artists that will be considered for nominations.
Briefly.co.za learnt that the understanding, according to Sowetan, that August or September will be the date set aside for the 17th instalment of the public-voted awards to be hosted.
A source in Sun City commented this past weekend that the up and coming big music industry party to be held after the SAMAs will in fact be the Metro FM Music Awards. The source added that there is one issue that has to be handled before an official announcement can be made.
Sowetan has information that it is formalities with regards to the venue that is delaying the release of the public announcement.
The previous awards were held in partnership with eThekwini municipality in Durban. Last year the KZN government cut costs which left them in a bit of a predicament.
A source told Sowetan that perhaps everything is been kept a secret because when it is finally announced it is going to be a big one!
Vuyo Mthembu, SABC spokesperson, said that the Metro FM awards is still one of the top events for SABC. He said that should all fall into place and the awards do in fact return this year, the SABC will surely communicate accordingly.
