A teacher has been suspended after being filmed invigilating a Grade 11 exam armed with a gun. The Mpumalanga Department of Education has commented that they will be keeping a close eye on the school going forward.
A 26-year-old teacher has been suspended and may even be facing criminal charges after being filmed supervising an exam, gun in hand.
The Mpumalanga Department of Education commented that the school has been instructed to open a case with police, saying that they will be keeping watch over the school:
"The department views this in serious light and has already instituted an investigation to understand the circumstances that led to this conduct. The department will monitor the developments at this school very closely."
However, the department says it is believes that this was an isolated incident, reports TimesLIVE:
"It may not be tolerated regardless of the circumstances. Those who are involved in the upbringing and moulding of children should always ensure that they set high moral standards. The department urges teachers and stakeholders to uphold the honour and dignity of the teaching profession and expose any behavior that seeks to undermine this virtue."
Nevertheless, the incident has caused waves on social media, with people voicing their concerns for the children involved.
