- Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, shared a throwback from 2009, which recognised a group of qualified women in the country
- Mboweni added that South Africans shouldn’t believe the “falsehood” that we don’t have qualified women
- The social media post had a polarising effect as some appreciated the gesture, but others questioned the behaviour of the ruling party and the minister himself
Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, took to social media and shared a throwback from 2009.
Via his twitter account, Mboweni shared a collage that was presented to him by the SA African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA).
Mboweni explained that it serves as a reminder that we have highly qualified women in the country and that we shouldn’t “buy into the falsehood” that we don’t.
The tweet went viral but seems to have had a polarising effect.
Briefly.co.za noted that many were left inspired by Mboweni.
Although not everyone was impressed and took a stab at the ruling party.
Some tweeps opted for a throwback of their own.
Ironically, more seemed interested in the minister’s posts relating to cooking.
