Gerda Steyn finished the Comrades Marathon in a spectacular record time of less than 6 hours.
The South African reports that Gerda's 5:58:53 is the 4th fastest women's Comrades time in history. It is also the fastest up-run ever.
Gerda finished in 17th-overall place, ahead of down-run record-holder David Gatebe. What a big day it must have been for the athlete.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Gerda bagged R500 000 for her race win and another R500 000 for breaking Elena Nurgalieva’s up-run record by more than ten minutes.
Gerda's aim was not to break the record, but she did want to claim the Comrades title.
She now hopes to qualify for the Olympic Marathon that will take place in Tokyo in 2020.
