Flip-flop art may sound a little silly but it's actually a beautiful and colourful spectacle to behold. Davis Ndungu creates stunning works of art from recycled flip-flops that are remarkable.
Davis Ndungu is a unique sculptor. He creates his works of art from recycled flip-flops and it looks so much better than you'd imagine.
Not only is Davis being very creative, but he's also helping the environment by collecting the flip-flops.
Beautiful News reports that thousands of these shoes end up in the ocean every year and since it's made from non-biodegradable material, it is toxic to marine life.
To remind us of the marine lives' plight, Ndungu is using recycled shoes to carve out thought-provoking sculptures.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Davis was originally a woodworker and he felt embarrassed about using old shoes to create his crafts.
But his art was so admired that he soon started taking pride in his work.
“I realised that the work I was doing was creating a lasting impact on people’s lives and the environment.”
Davis gets over 500 worn out flip-flops into his Cape Town studio.
“I love what I’m doing because I can see the difference I’m making.”
