South Africans were clearly not impressed after witnessing footage of an attempted mugging in Hillbrow, Gauteng.
Based on the video, the attack took place around Vanin Court and shows how the perpetrator covers his head with a hoodie before initiating his attack.
He then lashes out at the target, but the quick-thinking man counters and forces the attacker to the ground.
The foiled thug then walks away casually as if nothing happened.
Intelligence Bureau SA shared the video via their Facebook page on Monday and it quickly went viral.
Briefly.co.za noted that social media users had a lot to say about the footage.
Although resentment exists towards the perpetrators, a lot of the anger was aimed at the authorities for allowing the situation.
A number of people expressed sadness as a result of the deterioration of the area.
Rosanna Ferro said, “Hillbrow was once a beautiful clean vibey place, the place of wonderful memories for me and to see how it’s become is utter sadness. Filthy, ridden with crime and just dangerous.”
Nkosana Moyo added: “This is when you conclude that policing in central Johannesburg is hopeless. There are tonnes of these attacks - same place, most probably same perpetrators - yet there is nothing being done to curb the violence. Could this perhaps be that our law enforcement gives preference to some areas and none to others? Mr Herman Mashaba, where are you??”
Pinky Disemelo said, “I hate that place. It should be demolished.”
Jakkie Grobbelaar commented: “Viva la anc, we must keep voting for criminals.”
Brad Mulder added: “Rip Sa you have become a Lawless Violent Warzone country.”
