The post sparked a massive reaction and Briefly.co.za gathered Mzansi was clearly left divided on the subject. Some social media users slammed the government for failing to deliver service to the people in Alex.

Social media user @njabulo__sibiya commented: "Easy to blame residents but municipalities aren't delivering, several townships in Durban have gone 3 weeks without trash being collected, people put their trash bags out for collection, municipality doesn't collect, cats & dogs tear those bags to pieces & in no time it's a mess."
Amos Phahla, who goes by the Twitter handle‏ @amosphahla, added: "Painful and heartbreaking..."

However, others slammed the residents, adding it is their responsibility to not litter and clean up after themselves.

Twitter user @james28340136 commented: "I tell my children to clean up after themselves all the time. If I don't, they leave a mess. Adults should have been taught this, but sometimes they act like children and make a mess!"
