Nurse from Mamelodi Hospital opens up about poor working conditions

A male nurse at the Mamelodi Hospital pulled no punches when questioned by the South African Human Rights Commission about staff morals and working conditions.

The nurse said that the issues with the hospitals stem from the poor health system in place. He said that hospital staff can do nothing about lack of infrastructure or shortage of equipment.

There is also a shortage of ARVs at the hospital, with only one month's supply remaining instead of the usual three months.

Mamelodi Hospital recently came under fire when horror photos were posted on social media which showed a gogo tied to a chair with her hands behind her back.

The post sparked outrage on social media and South Africans called for action to be taken against the nurses responsible.

Briefly.co.za learnt that four Mamelodi staff members have been placed on special leave. The preliminary report stated the gogo was tied up for more than eight hours following an "incident".

The abused lady's family has since opened a case of assault against the hospital and called for heads to roll.
