Gang of suspects rob bus transporting TUT students at gunpoint

A bus transporting students from the Tshwane University of Technology was held at gunpoint, with five suspects allegedly vandalising the bus and robbing passengers of their cellphones and laptops.

Police are on the hunt for five suspects who are accused of vandalising a bus and holding students and their driver hostage.

Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi said the bus was stoned by a group of people in the area:

“The suspects apparently held the victims and the driver hostage with guns. The students were then apparently ordered to hand over their cellphones, cash and laptops before the perpetrators fled the scene on foot."

The identity of the suspects are known to police, reports The Citizen, and a case of robbery is currently being investigated.

The police have urged anyone with information which could lead to arrests to call the authorities on 086 001 0111 or SMS 32211.
