Armed robbers open fire on CIT guards, alarming video goes viral

The police are searching for a group of armed robbers who opened fire on security guards and fled with a large amount of money in Newtown, Johannesburg. A video of the incident is being shared on social media.

In the footage, a security vehicle is seen driving down a one-way street. A black car pulls up in front of the security vehicle and two armed men come out.

Only a few seconds later, two more armed men are seen exiting the car. One of them runs with a bag back to the car. A few minutes later, they are seen fleeing the scene.

According to TimesLIVE, Police spokesperson Col Lungelo Dlamini said the incident happened on Friday afternoon.

Dlamini said no one was injured.

"There was a suggestion that they were transporting money from a mosque, but that can't be confirmed."
