It's time for the State of the Nation Address and while this may actually be a political event, politicians love dressing up and showing off their fashions sense.

What better opportunity than at one of the most-anticipated events of the month? After all, a red carpet is for showing off, and there was a nice big one that welcomed guests to the SONA.

As with any such occasion, there are fashion hits, and fashion misses.

It seems that budget cuts affected the SONA, as people preferred more 'toned-down' looks. However, they still managed to look fabulous.

Here are our 6 favourite looks of the day, in no particular order:

Police Minister, Bheki Cele and his wife, Thembeka Ngcobo

Minister Cele and his wife looked fit to walk the red carpet at a movie premiere in Hollywood. Who says older couples can't slay?

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola

Minister Lamola and his wife looked absolutely stunning. Their outfits complimented each other's perfectly.

Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams

Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams looked wonderful in her understated black outfit with a playful touch of pink.

Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu and his wife, Thembi

Minister Mthembu and his wife made a beautiful couple and their outfits were classy and stylish.

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane and his wife, Natalie

Mmusi Maimane looked quite debonair and his wife's black dress was fit enough for a glamorous affair.

Member of the National Assembly, Grace Tseke

This black and white traditional outfit was a definite winner. Ms Tseke looked absolutely gorgeous.

It's still early, but the address has had it's first 'bite' already. The DA's Natasha Mazzone says that the nominees for Parliamentary committee chairs are a slap in the face for President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mazzone means business, lashing out at those chosen as nominees for Parliamentary committee chairs, according to a report by Briefly.co.za.
