Fans, music icons and the whole world took some time on Wednesday, June 25 to celebrate legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, exactly 10 years after his tragic death.
The icon, who is largely considered the greatest pop star of all time, has his legacy intact and his music amazingly cuts through three generations.
Being an icon, MJ, who passed away aged 50, was already among the top trends worldwide by the time his 10th anniversary was upon us.
It goes without saying that the late MJ inspired a number of contemporary acts including RnB sensation Chris Brown whose, music style and dance moves are a reflection of the Beat it hitmaker.
Despite an illustrious career that spans back to the 80s, MJ, being human, was also a troubled man in some forms, with his death still a point of controversy to date.
His rather complicated legacy has at times divided his fans, although no one could argue about the late’s prowess as far as the music is concerned.
An account by the pop icon's personal physician Conrad Murray at the time seemed to suggest that MJ passed away from a drug overdose.
Investigations eventually led police to believe that MJ's death should be considered a homicide and Murray was in 2011 convicted of involuntary manslaughter since he was the one who administered drugs to "help Michael Jackson sleep".
A controversial fout-hour documentary was also recently released which re-ignited MJ’s child abuse allegations spanning as far back as 1999.
Despite all the ups and downs, very few can argue that the late icon’s is not legendary when it comes to the music.
Notably, throughout his music career, MJ has had 30 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts including Beat It in (1983) and I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (with Siedah Garrett) which both peaked at number one.
Here are some of the messages from loyal fans a decade after his death:
